Just finished the tv series 'Jericho.' Kind of cheesy at times but, wow-what an amazing plot. I see why shows like it and 'Rubicon' got cancelled in their prime.
Brzezinski was the guy who referred to the majority of the earth's population as "useless eaters". It's nice to know what the self appointed ruling elite really think of the rest of us.
Will do on The International. Been meaning to watch it ever since someone posted this
clip
on a thread in here. Rubicon is definitely one of my all-time favorite shows. The fact that it was too intelligent, depicted too much truth, and didn't have enough explosions were its undoing I suppose.
THIS. Rubicon was amazing (as well as Homeland which is airing now). The International was actually pretty good. A bit too action-y (just like 24 with foreign and domestic policy but he good spars of differing viewpoints) but it really goes for the jugular while explaining world banks and such. One of my favorites.
Spangler was a well chosen character (they all were but he was picked with the bad/realistic guy in mind). I agree. Homeland is kinda on the same level but it just doesn't have that allure of mystery, fear, and the "something to lose" factor. In Rubicon, everyone had their desires and tried to protect their secrets for their own benefit (mostly). In Homeland, it's more like a soldier may or not be a terrorist and the woman investigating him may or may not be addicted and crazy. Not as appealing to me.
The writers of Rubicon drew most of their inspiration for the show from the post-Nixon paranoia conspiracy thrillers of the 1970s. I highly suggest that you check out Three Days of the Condor, All the President's Men, and most importantly
The Parallax View
if you haven't already. All great films.

Better to have glittery vampires occupy our thoughts- than survival scenarios.

oh come the fuck on, you think he came up with that idea in 1995?
that's been a staple of the entertainment industry for decades.

Lots of it was cool, but I think that life after the event was much more tame than it would actually be if that happened.

I was amazed how politically pointed the second season became. They just went for it.

It was brilliant. Loved everything about it, especially the Kale Ingram character.

Kale had some mystery about him. Really like Spangler(sp?) too. Just all-around good show. Homeland is KIND OF replacing it.

Definitely. It sounds like I'm going to have to give Homeland a chance.

Awesome, thanks for the suggestions. I've see Three Days and All the President's Men but never heard of the last one. Thanks again.

If I may add Coppola's The Conversation as well as well as De Palma's Blow-Out, you will most certainly enjoy them.

The first season should be on everyone's must watch list.

Dood I loved that show. So upset that it got canned with no real resolution. :-/

I've lived in Texas and doubt it will ever "succeed."
0 oopsiedaisy 2011-12-06
The only thing a Texan can that I would call 'success' would be to escape.
