It’s not “pure” spectacle. There’s most definitely a lot of spectacle involved, unfortunately. Yes. However, once the bell rings and the fight begins, the punches that land won’t be mere “spectacle”. Boxing’s a very real activity and people can get (and have gotten) very, very injured and damage in it. Shit’s very real.

There may indeed be a lot of huff and bluff in the initial build up and promotion of some fights - a thing which I personally happen to despise - but there’s ultimately nothing about the actual activity itself that’s anything like pro wrestling. In the least.

The activity itself is 100% real, and people get hurt. Badly sometimes.

Oh it's definitely sanctioned. 100%. The WBC has full backing of this fight and even made a special "Mayweather McGreggor" belt for it (stupid as I personally that belt is).

And Mayweather is absolutely training for this fight. Again, this isn't about McGreggor. This is about Floyd's legacy as "the best p4p" - which I don't personally think he is, but it doesn't keep him from feeling and thinking he is. He understands that that ranking would be entirely done away with if he were to lose this fight, so that alone is enough to make sure that he doesn't come in completely out of shape.

Is he training as hard as he did when he fought Diego "Chico" Corrales? Likely not. However, although I imagine he understands he's going to win this fight handily, he also understands the sport enough to not disrespect it by not training and coming in out of shape. He wouldn't have made it this far in his career if he didn't understand that fact.
