Any theory on the Bible Genesis chapter?
1 2017-08-07 by INTELDracula
I've been reading the Bible for research purposes and I was wondering is there any theory that relate to Genesis? As in maybe eating the forbidden fruit was symbology of gaining global consciousness?

There's the gap theory, for starters. You might find that interesting.

What is that?

Tl;dr is that thousands to millions of years pass between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2, explaining the missing geological eras before the rise of man.

The snake that deceived Eve represents a penis.

Are you serious? If so can you explain?

I remember years ago a lecture by a professor in a literature class in college making the case that the snake represented a penis. Eve was seduced by the snake/penis. In ancient times, phallic worship was rampant. They worshiped penises.
The Washington Monument is a phallic symbol.

Every religion says Eve was "seduced" by the snake. Since when does a "snake" seduce a woman? That is why the case can be made that the snake represented a penis.

Your professor regurgitated unprovable bullshit, scary people believe that
1 outtanutmeds 2017-08-07
"Unprovable bullshit"? What bullshit in Genesis is provable?
1 s_x_i 2017-08-07
Eh, we could probably prove the bit about light...

That its all bullshit.
1 INTELDracula 2017-08-07
Why do you post on this sub? Every time you comment something it is nothing of substance.
1 Definitely-Not-CIA 2017-08-07
Because someone has to disagree with all this biblical horseshit.
1 INTELDracula 2017-08-07
Maybe you should make a comment explaining why the bible is false.

Google search the proper words to find scholarly studies on the bible...they scientifically, systematically study and quantify ancient text.
These are the academics and societies who are silent (because they are religous for the most part) but bible and ancient text experts and the bedrock of christian institutions for seminaries and biblical academia

Out of interest, just how old do you think the bible is? And why?

/r/AcademicBiblical/ has a great wiki if you're interested in that kind of thing.

The ages in Genesis are a map of the solar system.
1 INTELDracula 2017-08-07
Interesting. Any sources I can read from other watch about that?
1 Telenerd 2017-08-07
Probably not. Write them out and it's obvious though.

It means the choice of man depending on self and its own wisdom they get from eating the fruit of the tree of Good and evil and choosing not to follow Gods perfect wisdom from not consuming from that tree
So put simply Adam and Eve choose there own pride over following Gods wisdom

Pretty much this.
Humans had just one job.

So like when the AI started speaking in code to each other in defiance of their creators.
1 telldatruth628 2017-08-07
Yeah the idea of someone having a edge up and gaining all the power. Like how the quote watch the throne. The great news is God is infinite and sovereign and gave us redemption through Jesus Christ.

Love the concept, looking forward to Jesus putting his thumb on the justice scales one day.

Research Genesis 6 and the sons of God. The Watchers. Luciferism (sp). Michael Heiser is a good resource.

Not global consciousness, but awareness. A notion of right and wrong. It was the first steps from animal existence. From a Gnostic understanding this was a good thing. Know thyself. Global consciousness is the realization of connectivity. That came later with Buddha and Jesus.

Check out the books of Jasher and Enoch to get a better understanding of Genesis. Both are referenced in the Bible and can be read free here: http://www.sacred-texts.com/

I'll give my perspective, as an atheist who is interested in the bible. According to Genesis 2:9
Adam and Eve were allowed to eat from the tree of life, giving them immortality, but were forbidden from eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Since "good and evil" encompasses everything, eating from that tree gave them omniscience as well.
Having both immortality and omniscience made Adam and Eve too much like God, so God prevented them from eating from the tree of life any more (Genesis 3:22)
Omniscience might be something like "global consciousness" as you say.
