Shills love quoting the part of your comment they're responding to

0 2017-06-24 by toxic_banana

Just something I've noticed lately. The majority of users who quote parts of the comment they're responding to seem to constantly be trying to discredit the theory in discussion and a review of their post histories generally show a young account with most posts doing much of the same stuff

What they actually do is paraphrase what you said into something entirely different then put it in quotes.

Or completely decontextualize it from the rest of your response, miscontextualize it with a fallacious argument, and top it off with a character attack without ever responding to the point you're actually making

True, they never respond to any direct question or request for evidence.

And just straight up assert there is no evidence for the idea you're arguing even if there is

So the five people that have ducked supporting arguments today are the shills and not me like they said? Asking for a friend.

Examples?

Anything you say can and will be used against you.

Only good advice I ever got from a pig.

The majority of users who quote parts of the comment they're responding to seem to constantly be trying to discredit the theory in discussion

Seems like bullshit. Where is your evidence?

Speculative based on innumerable instances of the described actions but here's an example http://i.imgur.com/z1cIGDF.jpg

All of the mass murders had mothers who were women

Everyone who breathes air dies

All shills breathe air therefore air is paying the shills

I think you might be on to something

comedy gold :)

Wait, is a shill someone who is paid to participate or someone who disagrees with you?

Can't tell if you're being sarcastic. If not, someone who is paid to promote a certain view point online

So what about them quoting makes you think they are being paid?

You see, you didn't say: People who I know are paid are doing this thing... you said that people who disagree with you are doing this thing.

And honestly, when people post walls of text, I find not quoting to provide context makes things very confusing, very quickly.

Don't be so logical. There's bots and shills all over the place. They are the bots are shilling and the shills are botting. It's madness

Instructions unclear, George Soros is now in my bathtub.

Is there pizza in the bathroom?

No in the #killroom

Obama just flew in an airplane full of hot dogs.

Twist: inside the hot dogs were more airplanes.

I HAVE HAD IT WITH THESE MOTHERFUCKING AIRPLANES IN THESE MOTHERFUCKING HOT DOGS!

The way they argue and the content of their post histories and the age of their accounts and whether or not they ever post anything not attempting discredit anything that isn't the mainstream narrative

Ah... so to be clear then, you're not one of those Redditors who frequently says that an argument should be considered on its content and not on who makes it, are you?

Depends on the validity of the argument. Fallacious arguments should be subject to intense scrutiny

You'd think that invoking the appropriate logical fallacy would be the best way to counter a fallacious argument, not using a fallacy of your own. But hey, takes all kinds.

Are you saying I'm arguing fallaciously? If so can you explain how?

You're using the very definition of an ad hominem. You're attacking the person, not their argument.

Someone destroyed your argument and now you had to make a post to call him a shill. Top form my good man.

Been noticing this for a while now

Well he got banned. So you got more chances for yes men to everything. Congrats buddy

Who are you even talking about?

Wow, I didn't know you could get banned for saying TD will never stop crying.

Yeah well, I got a note for it myself. Dunno what to think. I'll just keep going until I can't.

Seems a bit like a double standard to me, did you get warned or just add a note to the wiki?

Just a note. I don't know what else the guy has written though. Could be multiple replies to people. The post is about accusing him of being a shill.

So basically, you are pulling a Trump. You say something, someone uses it as evidence and you're like, "fake news", "you're a shill" or "illegal leaks"?

That's what I'm getting from your post. And this is why a Trump presidency is mad dangerous.

I'd say Steve Bannon, Rex Tillerson, Jeff Sessions, Mad Dog Mattis, Betsy DeVos, and Mike Pence are why a Trump presidency is mad dangerous...

Aye, comrade.

But I doubt any of these blokes are taking what those people say and applying it to their daily lives.

I don't think everyone who disagrees with me is a shill. It's a specific way they go about it that gives them away

It's a specific way they go about it that gives them away

By using your own statements to argue against you?

No that's not it

No that's not it

That's pretty much what every person in this thread is saying. Are they all shills?

Not necessarily

Not necessarily

Makes sense

Sarcasm? I'm happy to explain if you don't understand what I'm getting at

Yeah, please do.

...and that was the last anyone ever heard from toxic_banana

Hey, what a hot dog. There's some pizza here, too.

Bro. My pops used to make those for me when I was a kid. Don't let the deep state see those or they might send you to Haiti.

You're trying to prove a moot point here by being facetious, do you really not see anything they have mentioned?

Would it help if we pulled out examples of this done?

Usually you would quite something in order to argue it's validity.

Nah, I'm on mobile and way too lazy for it. Most I do is just quote sources with webpage s and videos

That's all you need to quote.

I'm not clicking that link. Ever since that psycho started phishing for IPs. I'm probably on some deportation list now.

It's a YouTube video, Jesus Christ man.

What conspiracies are you into by the way?

You seem to be more on the defense of other conspiracies than sharing your own.

You just post here, you're not on a list and nobody but other paranoid losers care about you, don't break your arm there lol.

Tell me you didn't see that whole thing where the dude was snaking ip addresses, sending people messages accusing them of being shills and then shared it in a post that was upvoted 500 times. Then he was suspended from reddit? He did it by sending links to YouTube videos or Imgur links. He was literally making a list. I'll check the video then.

As far as conspiracies, my pops was an OG theorist. He researched JFK in the 80s and we were always into aliens and the like. I don't know if it counts, but I was fascinated by Nostradamus when I was young as well.

I always lurked here, but never posted. I had an old Reddit account that I posted on until someone found out my real name. I don't know how. I used to mod a largish hobby sub and the users found out and I started getting messages on Facebook.

I would like to share my own theories, but they would not go over well here. Plus, I just wrote a 90 page thesis about two months ago and i never want to write again. Took me like 8 goddam months.

I saw it, but how are you going to be involved in conspiracy discussion? It sounds like you've bought a fairly convienient excuse to never have to get your hands dirty with some reading and watching from crazed whackos. Which is kinda the fun part about this sub, well it used to be.

JFK is a pretty good one, especially if you're in the Bush family side of it. That's a fun hole to go down, and it really sets the table for the demoralization of an entire country through the actions of the corrupt military industrial complex while they plundered wealth in the name of freedom.

Thankfully we need not worry about American infrastructure, just send your child to the middle east to fuel frustration and disgust in those communities. Now fund those terrorists and provide them weapons, make sure to pay their kingpins too. Now we've established a conflict that will never end because it is against.a religious sect that literally believes what they are being taught. You can't fight people who believe they are fighting for their version of freedom.

It didn't work for the Vietnamese who were fighting for their home, and it didn't work when the British tried it on us.

We've got a pretty tangled mess of conspiracy and New world orderesque stuff down those rabbit holes, but somehow they seem the most plausible sometimes.

It's like if we decided to follow the money, it would lead us somewhere. Can't rely on conspiracy theorist though...since what kind of pull do we have down here.

Taking a small part of your statement to turn the conversation around to avoid the topic at hand to spout talking points usually.

Nah, but people who use the quotes and then try to direct the conversation to a small detail in attempts to poison the well.

It's easy, like if I wrote a huge long comment but then somehow snuck in a quote by Sean Hannity or someone that most of the left have a hate boner for, they could just quote that section and attempt to disassemble it from that.

You ever even notice that when you speak negatively about Trump your posts will sit at around 10-15 upvote? I'm sure you haven't, or if you did I imagine you thought your comments were slaying.

That's a basic average, actually it gives me an idea. I'm gonna monitor some of these posts and track the numbers.

Cool man. Make a spread sheet. Make me number one on it

Did you downvote me? Just curious, help me get to the bottom of things :)

No. I don't really downvote. You're points are valid and much more concise than op. Though you're still being very coy about what you really want to say.

I think I'm good for the sub. My discourse is needed.

I've taken a piece at the discourse, it be nice if you supported theories in threads that ya like, but some people got bugs up em. I definitely get that.

Everyone has something they are passionate about, I'm not a fan of propaganda aimed towards political goals. It's frustrating and detracts from the truth. I always compare the OJ Trial to To Kill A Mockingbird for an example. You can whip people into a large enough frenzy that they will be able to look past basic common sense to believe in who they want to win.

I know both sides are heavy in it, which is why I try to stay critical of all sides, especially with Trump in power. Since I'm strongly in favor of pulling out of the middle east and I know Trump is trying to make friendly with the military industrial complex, although he doesn't have much help from one of the senate armed service committee members.

I know something is weird up in DC, and corruption is systemic as long as it rakes in money. I know who both sides power money players are, but no one ever wants to try and pull them out of the game.

You ever watch the Wire? How many people had to die before they could even touch the real power players Stringer Bell and Barksdale? A whole bunch. We are just some smart ass pawns, just never meant to take down the king.

That is what I worry that commenters like you and others from The_Donald tribe do more damage to us pawns than you do the tribes you're trying to attack.

I don't think this is the case. I do this a lot when having a discussion with people on here. It helps organize the conversation, imo. That being said, I have noticed that people who use extremely well grammar and formatting in their comments, are suspicious, imo. Depending on the type of shill, professionalism seems highly important for them, which makes sense. They can go fuck themselves, but it makes sense.

Just my two cents.

I've noticed that too, and I'm definitely not asserting everyone who quotes text is a shill, just seems to be a common theme for users whose post histories are rather telling

I agree, and I probably should've said: "I don't think this is necessarily the case". If you spend enough time here, and talk with/read enough comments, you really can see who is who, in a general sense. For an example: People who usually use "af" for "as fuck" are more of the "normies", and come from other social media platforms, imo. I call it "twitter talk".

People who do not use quotes (imo), are usually mobile users, whereas those who do... browse reddit on a computer via the browser (I use a computer). Hence why people who do what I said in my other comment are suspicious. They use a computer, mix with professionalism, implies working in a cubicle for a paycheck.

And are probably following a code of conduct mandated by their employers using scripted and preplanned arguments that don't hold up to much scrutiny or logic. Mobile user here, never use quotes, can confirm

And are probably following a code of conduct mandated by their employers using scripted and preplanned arguments that don't hold up to much scrutiny or logic.

Precisely! They are usually written in a manner that connects people's need to succumb to authority. Clearly well written wall of text, well formatted, gee golly, must be true! Updoot, now lets look at some more cute cat pictures.

using scripted and preplanned arguments

involving words that you yourself have already said?

people who use extremely proper grammar, spelling, and formatting in their comments, are suspicious

I couldn't help but find your intelligibly constructed response here to be suspicious.

Okie dokie, comrade.

God forbid people pride themselves on intelligent writing..

I'm not saying it's just that. I'm saying that, combined with other things. God forbid people actually having reading comprehension.

They always search for their one in to blow up and bullshit their way through.

Either by poisoning the well or questioning your intelligence.

Yep, I've noticed quite a bit of peoplethat too. By quoting it gives the appearance of special significance.

Well he got banned. So you got more chances for yes men to everything. Congrats buddy
