What's the point in the Death Penalty? If you're going to execute a monster who skinned a man alive on camera, why not make him suffer for decades instead of a swift death?

There are real monsters who need to be put down, but a swift death would be too good for them. Why not make their lives a living hell instead?

At a certain point additional punishment is not a deterrent to crime. Also, I would argue most of the sickest serial killers and other persons who are capital punishment eligible have severe mental health issues. As a society we can do better than some biblical eye for an eye justice. Torture is never right regardless of how atrocious the crime. Life in prison without parole is sufficient.

I really don't get the tough on crime thing from a rational point. (Of course it plays well with voters but that is a different thing)
We know that people who murder don't think: "If I kill that guy I could go to prison for 30 years so I don't do it, if only it was 10 years I would shoot him right now."

The killer is not worth it. We will use the money elsewheres.
n/a KillYourMasters2017 2017-05-04
Eh. Its costs more to pursue death penalty cases though.

More than 25+years of prison ? I doubt it

These people drain resources and tax money. They should be swiftly and promptly executed after all appeals are exhausted.

Oddly enough the death penalty costs more than life imprisonment.

That can be fixed.

But that's due to the ridiculous move to lethal injection. Those drugs are far more expensive than they should be because the main companies that make them don't like that they are used to kill. They still sell them (although many sources are going to stop selling them for the purpose of LI) but jack up the price to make a point.

I am against the death penalty because many, many innocent people have been put to death that were not guilty of the crime.
For those who have committed a crime worthy of execution, make them work to pay back society.

Can you imagine your last thoughts, being totally innocent of the crime? What about the month/week/day of those thoughts leading up to the day? Damn. Heavy.

Good point. You are sitting in Death Row for years; waiting to be put to death. You know you are innocent, but nobody will listen to you; nobody cares. You have lived with your emotions; going from having no hope-- to having hope, over and over again. Finally, you are wore out. You are broken. You give up. Then the time comes. You are lead to the execution chamber. You have been sedated, so you can't fight or even object to what you will face in just moments. You are being strapped in. Your heart is pounding so hard it feels like it will burst. Your mind is racing so fast you can't think. Then...the lights go out.

And after the lights go out, God will judge your soul. And if he accepted Jesus, he'll have everlasting life with God.

So no Muslims get to heaven? Seems a bit dickish on the part of God.
n/a TargetRegistry 2017-05-04
Heaven is not for everybody, only those in Christ Jesus can receive eternal life. Anybody who believes in Jesus and turn away from their sins will inherit the kingdom of God. So turn away from your sins
n/a Nutricidal 2017-05-04
And all the poor bastards who never heard of Jesus? Seems so arbitrary and vindictive. Look, you're not wrong, per se. It's just bad logic. It's the relationship, not the figure.

This isn't a conspiracy or even conspiracy related, also torturing a person wouldn't bring back the person that they killed or do anything for the victims family so it would just be more senseless violence, which is something the world sorely needs less of.

Only thing that it does is save money
n/a NarwhalStreet 2017-05-04
Executions cost more, not less.
n/a hrccbr1000rr 2017-05-04
Feeding and housing someone for the rest of their lives costs more than just killing them.
n/a NarwhalStreet 2017-05-04
Except that it doesn't by a considerable margin. The appeals and legal process is expensive.
n/a hrccbr1000rr 2017-05-04
No matter what appeals cost add to that the cell and prison maintenance cost of guards food healthcare and everything else it takes to keep them alive. I'm not arguing for for the DP I'm just saying it is cheaper just to kill them as you can no longer appeal as a corpse.
n/a NarwhalStreet 2017-05-04
You would think that would be the case, but a lot of audits and research suggests it's not. Looks like costs greatly vary by state. http://www.amnestyusa.org/our-work/issues/death-penalty/us-death-penalty-facts/death-penalty-cost

The brain has a hormone regulation system that allows people to adjust to present conditions. Many prisoners adjust and live their lives.
n/a Zerwe 2017-05-04
because it is a moral problem. torturing people is what they like. it actually exapands their spiritual residence. you don't want that. But you know they don't have any morales what so ever. they would lie, kill, betray even their brothers in order to get out. so...
n/a godiebiel 2017-05-04
Penal system (penal -> pain) intended punishment is for correction. Criminals considered "uncorrectable" are then supposed to be purged.

Not sure I buy that but I will read it
